A lot of pics - despite my phone dying late in the day. So much awesome at Airventure- - what can’t be conveyed via pictures is how friendly everyone is, and that they are focused on showing everyone a great time.
Doc
What’s up Doc?
More Doc
Fifi - I had just climbed down from Doc when I saw this.

That Bearcat (416) is actually a Corsair.

I think that SNJ cutaway might also be an SBD Dauntless. Hard to tell for sure, but the rib on the wing and the rear-facing machine gun sure look Dauntless-y.
Great photos! I’m jelly. That Dyess Bone is probably one of the ones I’ve seen on my numerous trips to Dyess AFB. I’ve never seen a Spit up close before, except in a museum. Looks like beautiful weather, too. AirVenture is on my bucket list. Thanks for posting.

Dammit! I knew I had a Corsair picture in there, and figured from the get go that I’d mix the two up. Fixed now.

The B17 Flying Fortress is listed as a Superfortress.

Clearly Doc and Fifi are on my mind... Fixed, thanks! :)

I started doing this for those that I wasn’t sure of—I have 5-10 pictures of various aircraft tails for this very reason.

Good idea. I do the same thing.

The B-1 was very hard to get pictures of - it’s got a small cross section from the front, yet looks huge from the sides. Between that and the crowds, it was tough. The pictures of that one are a mix of photos taken at 9 am and 6 pm- nothing in between.
Weather was perfect— 80 degrees, and a few clouds in the afternoon for occasional shade.

Here’s one I took a year or so ago up in Abilene.

That’s beautiful. I think Jcarr will see it airborne this weekend—

That picture of the Spit taxiing was literally the last photo before my battery died around 6:20. Unfortunately that meant that I couldn’t get a picture of it on departure, when it made the right turn and exposed the bottom view.
I was surprised by it, but it had a build plate noting it as a Supermarine MkIV, built in 1941 or 43 (can’t recall, no photo of it). I tend to focus on those aircraft that don’t have 15 more like it on the grounds (ie P51).

Gotta get you a portable battery. I’ve got 3.

Man, I’m loving seeing all these pictures of my plane!

What’s missing here is how awesome Doc’s Friends are. I took the tour (and bought a t shirt), and the people were just super. You could really sense the excitement in their voices at being able to show off Doc at Airventure. They clearly cut zero corners in making Doc airworthy for a long time to come, too.

I forgot it. :( Airventure has charging stations, which I didn’t realize until late in the day. I left my phone there for 30 minutes and it charged to 14%, somehow.

I know, they’re great to work with. I’ll be meeting with them again on Monday about Doc’s new home!

They were excited about that, too! I gave a little bit to help that cause — best of luck working on that! !!

Doc is the best thing to come from China Lake since the Sidewinder missile.

That’s a great museum, too! Went there many years ago, and loved it. We also took a flightseeing tour out of the airport that day. Beautiful area—
